Quit macros, log protein

Tbh i logged every bite for the first 11 weeks — grams, oils, the works. It was useful then because I had zero calibration. But somewhere around week 12, the app started shaping my day more than hunger did, and I’d get weirdly rigid about a 30-calorie gap while ignoring whether I’d had any protein.

Now I keep a stripped-down note: protein at breakfast, a vegetable at two meals, and a palm-sized protein at dinner. If I’m stalled for more than a couple weeks, I’ll go back to weighing for a few days just to recalibrate.

In the trials, appetite suppression does a lot of the heavy lifting, but it doesn’t automatically make food choices balanced. I’m curious whether anyone else found a middle path — enough tracking to stay honest, not so much that it runs the day?

Fellow cafe owner here — the pastry case is my calibration test. I did the same macro spiral, and now I just write a protein anchor for eah shift: eggs before opening, Greek yogurt when I’m doing invoices, and a tin of tuna or chicken in the fridge for the 3pm picky-over-samples moment. That’s it.

Keeps me from pretending a “small” croissant taste-test is lunch. Curious what your stripped-down note actually says — do you aim for a number at each meal, or just tick “protein first”?

I’m trying to decide whether a range would feel less rigid than a target.
