last march i was a different kind of night owl

last march i was still doing the 1am ranked grind with a king size candy bar and a 20oz mountain dew. this march i hit 47 lbs down and my 1am snack is frozen grapes or a string cheese. same desk, same headset, same terrible sleep schedule lol.

the difference is i don't wake up with that gross sugar hangover anymore. i also actually drink water during the day now which i never did before.

not a dramatic transformation but the year-over-year thing is kinda wild when i actually look at it. anyone else notice their late-night cravings just got quieter over time?

That 3am sugar hangover—heart racing, mouth like sandpaper—is exactly what I don’t miss. I lost 55 a couple years ago, regained 30, and the late-night candy was the first thing that crept back.

This time I keep a giant water bottle in the freezer and a bag of baby carrots on the desk. During queue times I make myself finish half the bottle before I eat anything. Sounds dumb but it breaks the autopilot.

Do you eat dinner late, or is the 1am thing more habit/boredom for you? For me it was 90% habit.

For what it's worth, same desk/headset/sleep schedule is such a real detail. I’m deep in a plateau too and the late-night gaming munchies are my final boss.

What finally helped me was weighing the frozen grapes instead of grabbing handfuls between queues—my “innocent” snack was way more than I thought. Now I pre-portion a mug and make myself drink a full water bottle before I refill it. Still not losing much, but at least I’m not undoing the day at 1am.

Do you track your late-night stuff, or just try to keep it to one planned thing?

Same desk/headset life here. My snack drawer is literally a clear bin in the fridge: washed grapes, cheese sticks, cucumber spears, turkey sticks, and frozen edamame I microwave for 90 sec. If it takes more than one step at 1am, I won’t eat it. My kids know the bottom crisper is mine or it’s gone by noon.

Did you track the grapes/string cheese at first, or just let the late snack be a freebie? I stopped logging after 9pm because it made me weirdly obsessive, but the bin still keeps me from DoorDashing fries.

47 pounds is wonderful—especially without overhauling your whole night-owl setup. One thing that helped me was ignoring daily blips and only looking at my weekly averages, since sleep and hunger rarely line up neatly.

I also keep a cup of herbal tea and a tiny bowl of frozen edamame at the desk, so my hands have something to do during queue times. Do you find your 1am snack is true hunger, or more of a habit tied to the ranked grind? That question honestly changed how I planned my evenings.

queue-time autopilot was my sneaky one. I’d finish a round, hit “find match,” and suddenly the whole candy bar was gone before the loading screen ended.

What helped: I put a fidget ring next to the mouse and a sticky note that says “hungry or bored?” If I still want food after two matches, I make a small plate and log it. The plateau is still being annoying—down 2 lbs in six weeks—but at least I’m not eating through the queue anymore.

Have you figured out which part of your night is actual hunger vs. just the hand-to-mouth habit?

Hi everyone, brand new here and only on week one, so sorry if this is a silly question. I’m also a night owl, and my danger zone is the 20 minutes between matches when I’d just grab whatever was closest.

Did you pre-portion the grapes/cheese before you sat down, or did you keep them in the kitchen and make yourself walk? I’m trying a tiny “queue snack” bowl so I don’t wander, but I’m nervous I’ll hate it by Thursday lol.

Also congrats on 47 lbs—that’s really inspiring to read on day four.

the frozen grapes at 1am are genius, but I had to stop keeping them in the freezer because I’d house a whole bowl and wonder why the scale didn’t move lol. What finally broke my plateau wasn’t food—it was moving my last real meal to 8pm and treating the 1am thing as a hand-to-mouth habit, not hunger.

I started logging those bites too, and oof, 200-300 extra cals easily. Are you tracking the late-night stuff or just white-knuckling it?
