Week one and my jeans actually zipped this morning

Tbh Hi everyone, I just joined yesterday so please be gentle with me! I'm on day 6 and honestly I almost didn't post, because I figured nothing would be happening yet.

But this morning I put on my work jeans — the ones that have been snug since spring — and they zipped without me doing the little hop-around-the-bedroom thing. I stood in front of the mirror just blinking at myself for a minute.

I haven't changed much else besides eating slower and stopping when I'm full, which is genuinely new for me.

The food noise seems a little quieter too, which I wasn't expecting this soon. Sorry for the ramble. Is it normal to notce tiny things like this in the first week, or am I just excited and imagining it? Thanks for having me here.

OMG the anti-hop zip is a major NSV. I’m a broke dorm-dweller too, and my version of tracking is a notes app list of “cheap proteins that don’t taste like sadness” — canned tuna, cottage cheese cups from the dining hall, and eggs I microwave in a mug.

Week one for me was mostly peeing a lot and weirdly cold hands, so your jeans victory is way cooler. Quick q: did you notice the fit more first thing in the morning or after a normal day of eating?

Trying to figure out if my own snug jeans are real progress or just less bloat.

Nice win. That first zip hits different.

From one lifter to another: week one is often water/glycogen, not fat, so don't be shocked if the scale stalls later. I track waist at navel and relaxed arm, same time weekly. What's your protein target looking like? That plus sleep is what kept my recomp moving when the scale didn't.

Love this — the zip-without-the-bedroom-hop milestone is a real one. Early on, my scale bounced around like a pinball, but my jeans and rings were way more honest.

If you want one concrete thing to track: grab a soft tape and note your waist/hips now, plus a quick photo in those jeans. Not for anyone else — just so future-you can see it when the scale gets weird.

What else has felt easier this week? Stairs, sleep, rings, energy? Those little wins kept me going when the number didn’t move.

Yesss, the no-hop zip is elite. I live out of hotels/airports, so my version is the seatbelt test on the plane — last trip I didn’t have to suck in to buckle, and I did a tiny internal happy dance while the guy next to me hogged the armrest.

Something that helped me: I pre-track travel days loosely (airport breakfast = protein + fruit, hotel mini-fridge Greek yogurt/string cheese) so I’m not making 9 p.m. vending machine decisions. Question: are you measuring anything besides jeans?

I started noting energy at 3 p.m. on travel days, and it’s weirdly motivating.

Keep going — you’re in the fun early-win zone!

The jeans are a better metric than the scale some weeks. I remember a thread here last winter about the scale stalling while pants kept loosening—way more common than people think early on.

One thing I’d add: try the same pair once a week, same time of day, and pay attention to how they feel when you sit down, not just stand. Sitting is the real lie detector.

Curious—are you noticing it first in the waist, or more in the thighs? Mine always starts at the waist while my legs lag forever.

tbh yesss the zip is the best kind of week-one plot twist. i’m a late-night gamer so my soda swap was a big one: i stopped keeping a 2L next to the desk and now i do a tall glass of ice + whatever zero-sugar fizzy thing + lime, and i actually log it in my notes app like a dork.

the weird thing i noticed first wasn’t weight, it was less 3am bloating and not feeling like a salted slug in the morning. q for you: what’s the one late-night habit you’re most curious to swap next?

that’s usually where i find the sneaky wins.

congratulations! As an empty-nester restarting my own routines, I’ve learned the jeans are only half the story.

My odd early marker was my after-dinner walk: week one I kept stopping to fake-check my phone, and now I’m adding the long loop without thinking. I also keep a note on my phone called “small proofs” — energy at 4 p.m., whether I stood while cooking instead of leaning.

Sounds silly, but those tiny wins keep me motivated. What’s one daily thing that feels easier for you besides the zip — stairs, sleep, or mood?
