When the morning number has a bad attitude

I’m trying to treat my scale like a noisy coworker, not my boss. Yesterday it showed +1.8 after a late salty soup and a hard workout, even though I stayed in my usual range all week.

My instinct was to skip lunch and “fix” it, which is exactly the old pattern I’m trying to unlearn. Instead I drank my water, ate my planned turkey wrap, and took a 20-minute walk. This morning it was down 2.2.

One day doesn’t prove anything, but it reminded me that my weekly average and my waist tape are better information for me. What’s your go-to move when the number feels random — wait it out, measure something else, or just log it and keep going?

Hard workouts get me too—especially new movements or lots of eccentric work. I can hold 1–3 lb of water for 2–3 days while sore, then whoosh.

Salty soup plus muscle repair is a perfect scale-troll combo. What helps me is comparing today to a 7-day rolling average, not yesterday.

If the average is flat, I don’t change lunch. What’s your usual daily noise band on that scale?

If ±2 lb is normal for you, +1.8 is basically a shrug. Also, was the workout harder or later than usual?

That would make me even less likely to react.

Late salty soup puffs me up too. You ate lunch anyway—that’s the win.
