Portion eyeball check: does this dinner look reasonable to you?

Three years here, mostly reading lately. I’m not tracking every gram anymore, but the old doubt about my own plate still shows up.

Tonight it was leftover chicken, roasted zucchini, and about a cup of rice in a cereal bowl. My head said that’s a big dinner; my body said it was fine.

I took a picture, laughed, and thought about how many threads here are really about trusting the quieter signals. So, normal-looking dinner or am I overthinking a bowl?

Not looking for numbers, just a gut check from people who’ve been around this block.

Tbh cereal bowls are the ultimate gaslighters—mine range from 1.5 to 2.5 cups. If that rice was a measured cup cooked, chicken was palm-sized, and zucchini had maybe a teaspoon of oil, that reads like a solid normal dinner, not a big one.

But if it was a dry cup of rice, or the zucchini got a generous glug of oil, the math changes fast. Sharp follow-up: was the rice cooked or dry, and did you track the oil?

That’s usually the hidden variable for me.

what helped me stop arguing with my plate was checking in at the 20-minute mark instead of judging the first look—if I’m still genuinely hungry, I add protein/veg, not more rice. Running a cafe, I also plate my own lunch on a smaller salad plate and put the leftovers away before I sit, because graze-y kitchen hunger is a whole different beast.

Does the chicken-to-zucchini ratio feel like enough protein to hold you? That’s usually what makes rice feel “right” versus “too big” for me.
