School pickup, snack negotiations, and the 3pm slump used to end with me standing at the counter eating whatever the kids left on their plates. Last month I started making my own plate at 2:45 — before the chaos — usually cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning and cucumber slices, or a boiled egg and a mini pepper.
Weirdly unglamorous, but it works.
I'm not white-knuckling frm 2 to 5 anymore, and dinner isn't a scavenger hunt. My appetite is still low, so "meal" is a loose word; I'm basically grazing in a planned way.
Two kids, two different after-school moods, and a husband who gets home at 6:30. The only thing that changed is I stopped waiting until I was starving to figure out food. Anyone else do a pre-chaos plate? What's on yours?
