Appetite went quiet for a month, then surprised me

I’ve been on a GLP-1 since last fall and tracked appetite, protein, water, and steps in a simple note. Around month five, the food-noise dampening I’d gotten used to seemed to wear off: I was hungry at 3 p.m., thinking about seconds after dinner, and my weekly average intake crept up maybe 250–300 calories.

I didn’t change meds, sleep, or workouts.

Three weeks later, without any deliberate reset, that background chatter dropped again. Same prescription, same Thursday routine. I’m not claiming a mechanism, and I’m not looking for dosing advice — I’m curious whether others have seen a stretch where the effect goes flat and then returns.

If so, did anything in your notes (cycle timing, stress, protein, sleep) line up with it, or was it just noise?

Been there. My appetite didn’t roar back, but my 3 p.m.

hand started wandering into the kids’ snack drawer. What helped was separating “mouth hungry” from “body hungry”: I rate it 1–10 before I open the drawer, and if it’s under 4 I do water + a 5-min reset (laundry, walk the mail in).

If it’s real, I grab a protein-forward drawer snack—cheese stick, turkey roll-up, roasted chickpeas—not the cracker/cookie combo. Curious: when yours came back, was it actual hunger or mostly the old 3 p.m. habit/cue?

And did your lunch protein slip during that month?

I had a similar month-5 blip. What jumped out in my log wasn’t total protein but timing: I’d drifted to a tiny breakfast and a huge dinner, and the 3 p.m. hunger was brutal.

When I front-loaded 30 g protein at breakfast and added a 10-minute walk after lunch, my afternoon appetite score dropped from 4/5 to 2/5 for about two weeks. My steps and sleep were unchanged, like yours.

Did you log hunger scores by time of day or just weekly intake? And did the creep cluster on weekends?

That’s what I’d check before assuming it’s purely tolerance.

The 250–300 kcal delta is the tell. I’d pull your step average and water log for that month before blaming tolerance. My own month-5 blip showed a 1,000-step/day drop and 500 mL less water; both preceded the 3 p.m. hunger by about a week. Did either of those variables actually stay flat in your notes?

Travel-brain is my wildcard. I started tagging each day “home / hotel / airport” and whether I ate at a weird hour, because my month-five blip lined up with two work trips: delayed flights, pretzel bites at 9 p.m., hotel breakfast buffet that felt like a challenge.

My appetite wasn’t roaring, but my opportunities to graze were. Did your note have a meal-location or travel-day column?

If not, try a week of adding just that—you might find the 250–300 kcal snuck in through terminal/hotel food, not dinner. Curious if your log shows the same pattern.

Your note about the weekly average creeping up is so useful. What I’d add from my own log: the month my appetite shifted, my overnight fast had stretched longer on weekdays, but my first meal was smaller and later.

When I averaged it out, the days with a later first meal were the same days I felt that mid-afternoon pull. I started tracking the clock time of my first real meal alongside hunger, not just totals. Did your 3 p.m.

hunger tend to show up on days when breakfast or lunch landed later, or was it steady across the week?
