My pen log said one thing and the fridge disagreed

I keep a messy little spreadsheet for ship times, stock count, and cost per mg, mostly because my monthly budget is tight. Last Tuesday I grabbed a box without checking the label and only noticed later when my log said three pens left but the fridge had two.

Nothing dramatic happened, but I spent the evening re-counting everything: 4 unopened pens, 2 in the current box, last two orders arriving in 6 and 11 days, and cost per mg moving from $4.10 to $3.75. The annoying part is that the log is supposed to be my safety net, and I trusted the box over it.

I'm fine, just rattled and a little embarrassed. Does anyone else's tracking make a small mix-up feel like the whole system failed?

Hi, I’m brand new here too (day 4), and this is exactly why I’m scared of my own spreadsheet. I have two columns: “sealed boxes” and “open pens,” because I realized I was counting the open one as a full pen and it made my math off.

Sharp follow-up: do you count by box or by individual pen? I started taking a quick phone photo of the fridge shelf every Sunday, just for me, and it’s helped catch those “wait, was it two or three?” moments. No advice, just solidarity.

Also, 4 unopened sounds like a decent buffer—do you track cost per mg per box or per pen? I’m still figuring that out without overcomplicating it.
