A 1 showed up in front of my weight today

I’ve been weighing daily for a while and letting the trendline do the talking, so I didn’t expect much when I stepped on this morning. The scale read 199.6. That’s the first time the first digit has been a 1 since I started tracking here.

I know one morning is just one data point, and tomorrow could bounce to 200.8 without meaning anything. But I let myself enjoy it: logged it, drank my coffee, took the dog around the block. The calm part of me knows the slope matters more than the dot. The huan part is grinning.

For those who weigh daily, how do you mark milestones without letting the next uptick steal the moment?

That first “1” is such a weirdly emotional digit — congrats on noticing it without letting it run the whole day. Something that helped me: I log a 7-day average and a 3-day low, and I only mentally “count” a new decade when one of those crosses it.

Keeps the bounce days from stealing the win. Do you have a way you’ll mark this one, or are you waiting for the trendline to confirm it?

Also, does your scale usually react to salt/carbs from the night before? Either way, hope you’re being kind to yourself today.

Nice. I’m the annoying spreadsheet person, so my rule is: daily number is noise, 7-day EMA is signal.

I don’t count a new decade until the EMA crosses and stays there for 5 straight readings. Mine took 11 days of 199.x before the trendline actually printed sub-200. What’s your 7-day EMA at?

Also log a weekly average—it’s the only thing that stopped me getting whipsawed by sodium and carbs. 199.6 is a real data point, but I’d wait for the trend to confirm before celebrating too hard.
