Is my appetite actually quieter, or am I just distracted?

Two kids, 6 and 9, so meals here are less dinner and more refereeing. I used to graze the whole time I packed lunches — handful of crackers, crusts, whatever.

Last month I moved the snack drawer to a bin the kids can reach and kept one shelf for me: string cheese, turkey slices, apples. Now I get to 3 p.m. and realize I haven’t thought about food since breakfast.

Is that the med, or is it because I’m not standing in the pantry while someone yells about homework? Either way it feels calmer.

Curious if anyone else notices it most in the chaos, not at actual meals.

Hi! I’m brand new here (week one too), so no answers, but this really resonates.

One thing that helped me: I put a sticky note on the fridge that says “stomach or habit?” Before I open it, I pause and rate hunger 1–10. Most afternoons it’s a 3, not a 7 — turns out I was eating to the rhythm of lunchboxes, not because I was hungry.

Do you notice it’s more the standing-and-packing motion than actual hunger? I’m trying to keep my hands busy with fizzy water while I pack.
