Maintenance is mostly boring Tuesdays and I've made peace with it

I crossed my goal weight in the spring of two years ago — 168, down from 240 — and nobody warned me how uneventful the after would be. The scale lives in a four-pound band now.

Some weeks I sit at the top of it and I don't spiral, I just go back to basics: protein first at breakfast, a walk after dinner, the same grocery list I've bought for a year and a half. Twelve items, mostly unchanged.

My weekly averages go in a paper notebook, one line a day, and that notebook has quietly done more for me than any app I've tried.

The loud part of this whole thing lasted maybe eight months. The rest has been repetition, which I used to think sounded like failure and now sounds like the actual goal.

For anyone a year or more past their target: what habit turned out to be non-negotiable for you? Not the impressive ones — the boring ones.

The four-pound band is the part I’d want details on. Did you set it yourself, or borrow it from a maintenance guideline?

I switched from daily weigh-ins to a 7-day average and it cut the drama almost entirely. My boring rule: if the weekly average is up two weeks straight, I pre-log breakfast and add a 15-minute walk before coffee.

That’s kept me in a ~5-lb range for about 18 months. Do you weigh daily or weekly, and is your grocery list truly identical or does it rotate seasonally?

I try swapping in one new high-protein item a month so it doesn’t feel like a hamster wheel.

This is the post I needed. I hit 172 a couple years ago, then slid back to 205 over eighteen months. I could do dramatic, not dull. Now I’m back at it and the only thing helping is a Tuesday night check-in: same chair, same tea, look at the week ahead

not at maintenance yet (currently in the “my pants fit but my brain hasn’t RSVP’d” phase), but this is weirdly comforting. My budget dorm version of boring Tuesday: microwave rice pouch, canned tuna or two hard-boiled eggs from the dining hall, frozen broccoli, and way too much hot sauce.

I track it in the same phone note weekly, so I can see my own four-pound-ish band without opening a fancy app. Question: did your grocery list stay identical because it’s genuinely satisfying, or did you rotate in one new thing a month to keep from losing your mind?

I’m collecting cheap protein ideas that don’t require a real kitchen.

Boring Tuesdays are underrated. The thing that finally helped me was picking one non-scale canary: the waistband of a specific pair of jeans on Sunday morning, plus whether I get my steps in by Wednesday.

If either slips two weeks running, I don’t overhaul anything — I just add a protein-heavy lunch and swap the evening snack for tea until it settles. I also switched from daily weigh-ins to a Tuesday morning average, which killed most of the drama.

Curious what your canary is now, OP? There was an old “maintenance signs” thread here that had some good ones, but I can’t remember if you posted in it.
