What the second fall of small routines feels like

For anyone just starting: the first October tends to be mostly logistics. Shopping, timing, backup snacks, deciding what to do when the evening goes sideways. The next one can be quieter.

My own version: last October a 20-minute walk was a whole production — shoes by the door, podcast queued, almost a ceremony. This month the same loop is just the after-lunch reset, and the grocery list has soup ingredients and a real plan for Thursday. Nothing dramatic happened.

The routine got less interesting, which turned out to be the useful part. Curious what other people noticed changing between their first fall and this one?

yes—this resonates. Last fall my “routine” was a whole checklist on my phone; now the 15-minute loop after closing the cafe is just something I do while wiping down tables, no podcast queued.

The quieter part for me was noticing I didn’t need a new system every time the afternoon rush wrecked my plan. I still keep a backup snack in the till drawer, but it’s more boring now.

Curious: does the quieter second fall make it easier or harder to notice when portion creep starts?
