i need wins that don't fit on the bathroom scale and i mean the kind the number can't show

I’ve done the big loss before — 52 down — then a rough couple years and 31 came back. I’m eight pounds into round three and trying not to make the scale the whole story, because it’s already bored with me.

So my goals lately are weird and specific. I want to stand through my daughter’s 40-minute choir concert in June without scanning for an empty chair.

I want to get up off the floor after building Legos without using the couch as a crane. And I want to walk the dog loop without negotiating with myself at the halfway tree.

The scale hasn’t been dramatic. But last week I stood for the whole concert rehearsal and didn’t think about my knees once. That felt like a real win, even if my weight chart just shrugged.

Curious what everyone else is chasing that a number can’t show. Not trying to be deep — just need more things to cheer for.

the standing-through-the-whole-concert goal is my favorite kind of win. June’s gonna feel so good!

For what it's worth, i love this. One non-scale win I track now is “standing minutes before my back says sit down.” I time myself while chopping veggies or folding laundry—not to push through, just to notice.

I went from 8 minutes to almost 25 over a couple months, and it felt more real than the scale some weeks. For the concert, I’ve practiced standing during a podcast at home in the same shoes, so it’s less of a shock.

What signal would feel like a win for you besides the scale—endurance, clothes, energy, something else?

My trendline says standing ovations count double.

Hi, I’m brand new here too (day 4), so I hope it’s okay to chime in. I love this. One tiny thing I started tracking because the scale is boring me: can I get up off the living room floor without grabbing the coffee table.

Yesterday I did it — slowly, not gracefully, but no hands. Still can’t do socks standing up.

For June, could you pick one song in the concert as your “I’m still here” checkpoint? Then it’s not 40 straight minutes, just a few small anchors. Is that too dorky?

This is my favorite kind of goal. What tiny standing win have you noticed lately? 💛

Recomp lifter here, 4x/week. The scale is basically the last variable to move.

I keep a “capability list” in my phone: stairs after leg day without pausing, carrying all the groceries in one trip, getting off the floor without hands, same weight on rows for an extra rep. Last month: first unassisted pull-up in years and my watch band needed a tighter hole.

What are you tracking that’s 0% weight but still tells you the body’s changing? Also, how often do you test it so it doesn’t become another chore?

Night shift here. My non-scale win was carrying all the groceries in one trip and not needing a breather on the porch.

For the concert: stand through a 20-minute show at home. Twice. Then 40. Write the date you nail it on the calendar. Scale can’t argue with that.

What’s the seat-scanning trigger for you—knees, back, or breath?
