Six ramekins for twelve bucks beat my tracking app

I went back through three months of my spending sheet. Total was $212 on stuff I bought specifically for this routine, and the clear winner wasn't the $38 protein tub or the $26 app subscription. It was two packs of 4-ounce glass ramekins, $11.99 each, from a restaurant supply place.

Every Sunday I portion plain Greek yogurt and frozen berries into twelve of them, lids on, stacked in the fridge door. Before that I was eyeballing a "bowl" around 8pm, going back twice more, and logging it optimistically. Now the container is the unit, and the container doesn't negotiate.

My 7-day rolling average for evening intake went from roughly 640 to 415 across about six weeks. Nothing heroic on my end, no new willpower, just fewer decisions and a smaller dish with a lid.

It's a boring answer. I think that's why it worked. What's the sub-$20 sleeper item in your setup that did more than it should have? Extra points if it didn't come from the fitness aisle.

I love this. The cheap container that removes a decision beats the shiny subscription every time.

I do something similar with 4-oz jars: one shelf for yogurt+berries, one for chopped veg, and I stack them at eye level so they're the first thing I see. My weird trick is a strip of painter's tape on the lid with the day I prepped, because anything past Thursday gets frozen into smoothie cubes instead of thrown out.

Question: do you eat them straight from the ramekin, or dump into a bowl and add crunch? I'm trying to figure out if the container is doing the portioning or the ritual.

My trendline says the same—cheap glass beats subscriptions every time.

yo the ramekin thing is real. i do the same with 4oz jars for overnight oats + chia, and the glass makes it stupid easy to eyeball 3/4 full so i’m not opening the app at 1am.

curious: do you weigh the frozen berries while they’re still frozen or let them thaw first? mine clump and my “scoop” varies by like 30g lol.

also dry-erase marker on the glass lid has saved me from mystery fridge containers.

Love the ramekins, but honestly my app still earns its keep—it catches the why, not just the how much.

Ha, the ramekins are the only thing that survived my kitchen too. Mine live in the fridge door as snack packs for the kids: cucumber coins, a few grapes, cheese cubes, and a dab of dip.

Six of them, Sunday night, done. It kills the 4pm cracker-box raid because they can just grab a glass.

Bonus: since they’re see-through, I actually eat the stuff before it turns into science. Do you use lids, or are you a plastic-wrap-and-pray person?

The ramekin win for me was lunchbox insurance: I set out six with cucumber coins + hummus or grapes + cheese cubes while making dinner, and the 4yo grabs one instead of raiding the cracker box. My only issue is lids—press-and-seal lasts about one school day here.

Anyone found a cheap lid that survives a backpack? I also started writing the day on painter’s tape so I don’t find mystery yogurt from Tuesday.
