First 1xx since 2021

Hit 198.6 this morning, which is the first time I've seen a number starting with 1 since early 2021. Started tracking on January 8th at 233, so that's roughly 34 lbs over about five months.

Nothing dramatic — I just weigh everything on a food scale, walk 40 minutes most evenings, and stopped eating after 8pm because late snacking was my main leak. I also went from a snug 18 to a comfortable 14 in jeans, which honestly feels more real than the scale number.

The weird part is I don't feel like a different person, I just feel less tired and my knees stopped complaining on stairs. My rate has slowed to about a pound a week lately, which I know is normal but still tests my patience.

For those further along, did your loss stall around this point and did changing anything actually help, or was it just time?

Nice. 34 lb in ~5 months is about 1.5 lb/wk, or ~0.65% body weight/week — a sane clip. The after-8pm cutoff probably does more than people credit; it’s a hard boundary, not a macro debate.

Question: are you tracking a 7-day rolling average or just daily weights? At this stage I’d care less about 198.6 and

Congrats on the 1! I run a cafe, so all-day grazing is my personal boss fight — a broken cookie here, a spoon of ganache there, and suddenly it’s a meal I never logged. What helped me was a “no-taste” rule after 2pm and keeping a tiny plate

The 8pm cutoff is the interesting part to me. Did you shift dinner later, or just close the kitchen? My main leak was mindless bites while cleaning up, so I started brushing my teeth at 7:45 and leaving a giant mug of decaf tea by the sink.

First week was ugly, but my morning appetite actually went down, which I didn’t expect. Also, for the 198.6 morning: I screenshot the scale on milestone days, because two days later I’m usually back over the line from sodium and it messes with my head. Trend-line says congrats either way.

Welcome to one-derland! That first digit flip is such a weirdly emotional milestone. I’m curious about the 8pm rule — was it harder to stop the habit itself, or to find something to do with your hands/evenings?

I’m trying a kitchen-closed routine too, and making a big herbal tea right after dinner helped more than I expected; it made the night feel “done” instead of deprived. Also, did your 40-minute walks start as a weight thing or a head-clearing thing?

Either way, huge congrats on the consistency — 34 lbs of quiet habits is the real win.

The 8pm cutoff is the part I want to hear more about. Hard stop, or did you just shift the snack earlier? I run a cafe and my danger zone is 7–9pm, once the last rush clears and I'm finally off my feet — that's when the leftover pastry starts negotiating with me.

Weighing everything would probably help, but right now I eyeball it and lie to myself about "just a bite." Did you pre-portion stuff earlier in the day, or white-knuckle it to bedtime those first couple weeks?

The walk is underrated in these threads. Mine is 45 min post-dinner and mostly functions as appetite suppression — I'm not hungry when I get back, so the evening window closes itself.

Question: did your 34 lb come off linearly or in stair-steps? Mine ran 10–14 days flat, then a 2–3 lb overnight drop, repeat.

Made weekly weigh-ins useless to me, so I switched to a 7-day rolling average and quit arguing with the scale. Are you weighing at the same time daily?

198.6 matters less than the slope.

That first number starting with a 1 is such a strange milestone — huge, but also just a Wednesday. One thing I wish I’d done right around 198 was take measurements and a photo in the same pair of jeans. I stalled for six weeks soon after, and the tape and photos kept me from

congrats on the 1xx — that’s huge. Mild pushback, though: I’d argue the “nothing dramatic” part is the whole magic.

The boring stuff that survives a bad week is what actually holds. One concrete thing that helped me was pre-logging my day in the morning, so decisions were mostly made before hunger showed up.

Sharp question: what’s your plan for when you can’t do the 40-minute walk — travel, weather, rough day? That’s usually where my streaks wobble.
