Hotel breakfast buffets are undefeated against my GLP-1 progress

I travel most weeks for work, and apparently my appetite ignores good intentions once a hotel waffle maker appears. I was down 14 lbs by mid-spring, feeling pretty smug, then did four cities in 12 days: client dinners, lobby snack bowls, and a 10 p.m.

room-service burger that felt logical at the time. The scale is up 6 lbs and my brain keeps doing pastry math.

Not panicking, just mildly annoyed.

I've been home for two weeks, back to grocery runs and walking meetings, and the trend is finally flattening instead of climbing. The boring answer is probably consistency, which is not what I want to hear while staring at a breakfast buffet.

Does anyone else find travel weeks make the fod noise louder instead of quieter? I'd love your hotel-room damage-control habits that don't involve packing a blender.

hi! I’m brand new here (literally week one), so I don’t have answers, just nervous questions.

The hotel waffle maker is exactly the kind of thing I’m scared of. On a recent 2-night work trip, I tried eating the protein stuff first—eggs, yogurt, a little fruit—then walked by the waffle station once before deciding.

Sometimes I still had a few bites, but it kept me from the full “vacation plate” spiral. I also skipped the scale until two days after I got home, because travel food always seems to make it jump for me.

Do you track anything while traveling, or do you just give yourself a pass until you’re back?

Hotel buffets are just an unpriced all-you-can-eat option, so I stopped negotiating at the waffle maker. I do a lap, no plate, then build one: eggs/Greek yogurt first, fruit,

Hotel buffets are my kryptonite too. What helped me: I scope the whole line first, then take one plate only—eggs/yogurt/fruit first, and if I still want the waffle I sit far away and drink coffee for 10 min. Usually the urge passes. I also pack a ziplock of jerky, nuts, and protein bars so 10pm room service

Hotel buffets are a travel sport, honestly. I’ve had a 12-day work stretch add 6 lbs and then drop 4.5 of it within a week of being home—same appetite weirdness, just way less sodium, better sleep, and normal walking.

The number that mattered was the 10-day trend, not the Monday-after-red-eye scale. One thing that helps me: I still take the waffle, but I put it on the same plate as eggs/protein and fruit, then sit down and drink a full glass of water before going back.

Usually I don’t want round two. Are you comparing to your pre-trip trend or to that one low morning before you left?

That low is often the outlier.

sorry to hijack — does anyone else’s hotel fridge never actually gets cold? Anyway, what helped me last trip wasn’t buffet strategy: I took a photo of my plate before eating and logged it in my notes app.

Seeing four waffle quarters versus two made me pause. I also started asking the restaurant the night before for a to-go breakfast—fruit, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs—so I wasn’t standing in line half-asleep.

Still regained 5 lbs this summer, so no preaching. Just trying to make the default less chaotic.
