Travel weeks near goal are mostly boring now

For anyone new to a travel-heavy routine: the last stretch tends to be less about willpower and more about defaults. A grocery stop beats a hundred menu choices. A hotel fridge shelf with yogurt, fruit, and something savory saves late arrivals.

Fullness cues matter more than clean-plate rules when portions are hotel-sized. I’m within a few pounds of a round-number milestone, and the only dramatic thing lately is how un-dramatic the planning has gotten. Last week: three hotel nights, one grocery run, two leftovers, zero room-service spirals.

Newcomers, boring defaults are the win. What’s your go-to travel default when you’re near a goal?

I keep a cheap “emergency dinner kit” in my backpack: tuna pouch, microwave rice cup, soy sauce packet, and hot sauce. Total maybe $2.50 and it’s saved me from $19 airport quesadillas more times than I’d like to admit.

Dorm microwaves and hotel lobby microwaves are both grim, but hot sauce covers a lot of sins. My question: how do you handle the late arrival when the grocery stop didn’t happen?

That’s where my defaults collapse and I eat crackers for dinner like a raccoon with a student loan.
