Week 22 trendline: down 31.4, appetite louder, patience thinner

My spreadsheet has 22 rows now—daily weights, waist, sleep, protein, and a 1–5 impulse score. Down 31.4 lb from start, but the last 18 days have been a 1.2 lb range: boring, not stalled.

What’s weird is that hunger is still mild, but the “that sounds good” impulse came back around week 19, especially after 8pm. I added a 25g protein snack at 4pm and my after-dinner grazing dropped from 5 nights a week to 2.

I’m mildly contrarian on the appetite-disappears-forever talk; mine is more like a radio in another room. Sleep is the other variable—under 6.5 hours, my next-day impulse score nearly doubles in the log. Not changing anything yet.

For people tracking more than weight: which number moves first for you—waist, resting heart rate, or scale?

The 4pm snack would be a distant memory by 8 in my house. My “that sounds good” hour is after the kids are down and the kitchen is finally quiet—it’s rarely real hunger, more like my brain wants a dopamine snack.

I keep a drawer: turkey sticks, light string cheese, frozen grapes, tiny popcorn bags, mint tea. If my impulse score hits 4, I set a 10-min timer and brush my teeth or unload dishes first.

Does yours spike during cleanup, or once they’re actually asleep?

Fellow spreadsheet nerd here, also living out of a carry-on. That 1.2-lb 18-day range is so normal it’s almost rude.

What helped me with the 8pm “that sounds good” gremlin was adding a “where” column next to my impulse score. Mine clustered hard in hotel rooms after I’d stopped moving—airport was fine, rental car was fine, but 8:05pm in a mid-tier hotel with the TV on? Danger.

Now I do a fake lobby lap or make tea before I sit down. Sharp question: is your 8pm impulse mostly at home, or does it spike on travel nights?

If travel, track location for a week—might separate real hunger from room-shaped boredom.

Have you tried logging the impulse with a 10-minute delay instead of just the 1–5? That was my cheap dorm experiment: when the 8pm “that sounds good” hit, I set a timer and wrote one word for the trigger (bored, roommate’s microwave, doomscrolling).

Mine was 80% “I want a reward after homework,” not actual hunger. A mug of mint tea + frozen grapes usually killed it; if it survived 10 min, I ate 20g cottage cheese or yogurt and didn’t spiral. Also
