RHR down 8 bpm but scale stuck 3 weeks—what gives?

I'm 42F, 5'6", started at 187 nine weeks ago, now 179. Scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks despite 1,650–1,800 cal, lifting 3x/week, 8k steps.

But resting heart rate dropped from 72 to 64, waist is down 1.5 inches, fasting glucose went 103→92, LDL 128→112. Clothes fit better. Is this a normal body-comp-before-scale thing? What data did you track when the scale stalled but everything else improved? Curious if I should change anything or just keep going.

Same thing happened to me at week 8. Waist kept shrinking while the scale sat for 19 days, then whoosh, down 3 lbs overnight. Water retention hides fat loss.

That whoosh sounds great in theory, but the waiting around for it is the worst part. For anyone who's watched the scale finally move like that — was it a sodium change or a carb change right before it happened?

Your RHR and waist data are way more convincing than the scale. I'm 38M, 212 to 194 over 16 weeks. Scale was flat weeks 5–7, but waist dropped 2 inches and RHR went 68 to 59. I tracked weekly averages, waist at navel, and photos.

The scale eventually caught up after a refeed weekend and better sleep. Not a doctor, just my own n=1 log. Three weeks is frustrating, but if glucose and LDL are improving, I'd personally keep the routine steady and review after two more weeks. I also noticed clothes fit differently before any drop.

The LDL and glucose changes are the interesting part. What were your carbs doing during those 3 flat weeks?

Carbs might matter, but sleep was my issue. My plateau broke when I actually slept 8 hrs instead of 6.

Sleep was my missing variable too. A high-salt restaurant week stalled me 4 lbs, then it flushed out.

Three weeks isn't a real plateau if the waist measurement and labs are still trending the right way. Sit tight, recheck in two weeks.

Have you recalculated maintenance? Losing 8 lbs changes TDEE a bit, but not enough to explain three flat weeks.

TDEE drop is small. Lifting 3x can add glycogen and water in muscles, so scale flat but leaner is classic.

I vote keep going and add waist at navel plus hips. If both drop, ignore the scale for a month.

I'm jealous of the sleep fix. Mine is stuck at 6.5 hours. Did you change anything or just finally stopped doomscrolling? My diary says RHR down 8, scale flat, mood okay. Trying to trust the trend.

Restaurant week gets me too. I logged 1.5 lbs overnight after ramen and woke up puffy. Three days later it was gone. Noting salt, not panicking. Waist unchanged. Scale is noisy.

Tracking it the same way here. Navel waist came down 0.75 in while the scale just sat at 174. Sunday morning, same spot, exhale, same tape. Labs aren't due yet. Two more weeks of data feels sane.

I recalculated maintenance after 8 lbs and it only moved about 60 calories. That can't explain three flat weeks. So I'm watching sleep, stress, and lifting water. Daily log, no panic changes.

This is my hunch too. I added 3x lifting and my muscles feel fuller. Scale says same, shirts fit looser. Friday photos are helping. The mirror is ahead of the scale.

Added hips to the tape-measure rotation this week. Hips down 0.5, navel down 0.25, scale flat. That's enough for me to keep the whole tracking routine going another month. Diary entry: patience, not punishment.

Scale is a noisy roommate. Waist is the lease.

RHR down 8 is a big win. Mine dropped 4 when I walked after dinner. I'd hold course, check measurements in two weeks, and compare weekly averages instead of daily weights.

42F, same exact stretch around weeks 6-9: scale sat at 179 while my RHR went 74 to 66 and my wast dropped 1.75 inches.

The thing that saved my sanity was switching to 7-day weight averages plus a monthly thigh measurement and front/side photos. Daily weigh-ins were just tracking lifting water. The whoosh finally hit week 11.
