The moment I knew I had to start over

I didn't have a dramatic wake-up call. I just pulled out my work clothes for the first time in months and none of them fit.

I stood in front of the mirror, doing the math on how I let 22 pounds creep back over the last year. It wasn't one big thing, just a lot of small ones that added up.

I sat on the edge of the bed, feeling that familiar shame, and for a minute I thought about just buying bigger pants and ignoring it.

But something shifted. I'm tired of starting over. I'm tired of the cycle. I'm not looking for a perfect plan or a miracle, just a way to stop the slide. So I put the tight pants on the chair where I can see them, not as punishment, but as a reminder.

For those of you who've been here, how did you get past the shame and actually take the first step again?

Not to be that spreadsheet person, but 22 lbs in a year is only ~0.42 lb/week — slow enough that daily scale noise absolutely hides it. My own tell was the 7-day average looking “fine” while the 28-day trendline climbed 3.1 lbs over six weeks.

I now log one extra column: how my work pants fit, scored 1–5, once a week. Sounds dumb, but fabric doesn’t care about water weight.

Did you have any weekly data from the last year, or was this the first hard checkpoint?
