What do you use to remember walks and dumbbell days

Since my youngest left for college, I've been rebuilding my days around two things: a walk after lunch and a short dumbbell routine in the basement. I know that sounds simple, but I keep forgetting whether I did three walks or four, and my phone is full of half-finished notes.

Last week I taped a plain wall calendar by the kettle and gave each walk a small dot; weights get a slash. It's oddly satisfying to see the month fill up, though I already missed a Tuesday and fought the urge to backfill it.

I'm not chasing perfect streaks, just trying to know what I actually did. For those who lift or walk regularly, do you log in an app, a notebook, or just mentally?

I'd like something I'll still use when the novelty wears off.

i’m a late-night gamer too and phone notes always died on me. what finally stuck: two cheap jars on my desk, one for walks one for dumbbells, and i drop a poker chip in after.

walk after lunch = blue chip, basement dumbbells = red chip. if i’m up till 2 i still do the dumbbells before i close the game, then chip goes in.

sunday i just count chips, no app, no notes. maybe too simple but it works.

do you count a 10-min walk the same as your after-lunch one, or only full ones?

Hi, I’m brand new here—only week one—and a little nervous posting, but I love this question. I’m using two tiny jars on my kitchen windowsill: one for walks, one for dumbbells.

Every time I finish, I move a paper clip from the “to do” jar to the “done” jar. At a glance I can see if it’s 3 or 4, and it’s weirdly satisfying.

I also write the date on a sticky note and stick it inside the lid, so I don’t lose the week. Does your basement routine feel harder because it’s out of sight, or is the walk the one you forget?

Night shift here. Phones are where habits go to die.

I use two mason jars and a bag of pennies. Walked? Penny from left jar to right. Dumbbells? Different jar. End of week I count and reset.

Takes two seconds, no unlocking, no half-finished notes. Miss a day and the empty jar stares at me.

Only rule: mark it before you sit down. Are your dumbbell days separate from walks, or same days?

If separate, use different colored jars so you don’t mix them up.

i just sharpie tally marks on my soda-swap box, one for walks one for dumbbells, super dumb but it stuck lol

I’m a paper-and-pen gal. I keep a tiny monthly planner on the fridge and use two different stickers—sneakers for walks, a little dumbbell for basement days.

If I do both, both stickers go on the same square. Sunday morning with coffee, I count them and jot the totals on a sticky note.

I joked with the gals at the pharmacy counter that I need a sticker chart like my kids had, and honestly it works. Do you count a quick around-the-block stroll the same as your full after-lunch walk, or only the longer ones?

That’s the part that trips me up.

Welcome back to the land of quiet-ish mornings. I’m a big fan of the humble index card. I tape one to the inside of a cabinet door each week: two columns, W and D, and I just make a tally mark with a pencil I keep right there.

Sunday night I snap a photo and recycle it. Phone notes were where my good intentions went to die, honestly. There was a thread ages ago about “friction-free tracking” that stuck with me — the less I have to open or unlock, the more likely I actually mark it.

Curious: does the kettle calendar work because it’s right in your path, or do you sometimes finish the walk and forget before you get back inside? If it’s the latter, maybe keep the pen on a string next to it.

I use a deck of cards. One card per walk, one per dumbbell day. Done, card goes in an empty coffee can. Sunday I count the can. I write the date on each card so gaps show up. Night shift brain likes one motion. Are you tracking just done/not done, or also time and weight?

For what it's worth, i’m a dry-erase whiteboard person — mine’s magnetic and stuck to the basement door. Two columns, WALKS and DUMBBELLS, and I make a tally before I come back upstairs.

Being right where I kick off my shoes means I actually see it, unlike the phone notes I never reopen. End of the week I copy the totals onto the grocery-list pad, mostly so I can spot patterns.

Sharp question: does anyone track time of day too? I keep double-counting my after-lunch walk because I can’t remember if it was before or after the mail run.
