My brain has decided frozen mango is the whole food group

I’m about five months in and the scale has been circling the same two pounds since mid-June. Annoying, but I can live with it. What I can’t explain is this mango thing.

Frozen mango chunks, slightly thawed, with a pinch of salt. I think about them at work. I’ve eaten a bag and a half this week. Before this, I never bought mango.

Protein still gets eaten, water still gets drunk, but mango is the only thing that sounds genuinely good. It’s not a binge — more like a low hum in the back of my head.

Anyone else get a random fixation that replaces all other food thoughts? Did it fade, or did you just keep a bag in the freezer and move on? I’m not mad about it, just confused.

frozen mango + flaky salt is dangerously close to a margarita, so I get it. Question: are you actually logging it?

My travel brain treats fruit as “free” until I weigh it, and a bag and a half is probably 4–6 cups. I started pre-portioning mango into hotel coffee cups and logging it before I leave for the airport—turns out I was eating a couple hundred calories a day I wasn’t counting.

A squeeze of lime and chili powder makes it feel less like a sad desk

Not mango, but I had a frozen cherry phase and realized I was eating ~250 cal most nights without logging it because “it’s fruit.” Are you weighing yours? The 16-oz bag I buy is about 270 cal, so 1.5 bags is ~400 cal—enough to quietly stall a small deficit.

Also check the label for added syrup; some bags are just fruit, some aren’t. Does the pinch of salt make it feel more like a snack than dessert for you?

Protein still getting in is a real win—keep that anchor. For the mango, I’d track it as its own “snack” entry for a few days, not to restrict, just to see the pattern.

When I did that with a nightly popcorn habit, I realized it was less hunger and more my brain’s “kitchen is closed” signal. Does your mango happen standing at the freezer or in a bowl on the couch?

If it’s the freezer, try portioning into a small cup and walking away; if it’s couch, keep the bag out of reach. Also, are you actually hungry, or is it the cold/salty sensory thing?

That answer would tell you a lot.

Frozen grapes over here, so no judgment. One thing that actually helped: I portion the bag into little cups the second I get home from the store, because at 9pm while I'm wiping down the counter, "the bag" becomes the serving size.

Also curious — is the mango replacing something, or landing on top of your normal day? When my scale did that same two-pound dance, it turned out my snacks had quietly become a fourth meal instead of a swap.

Two kids and chaos hours here too, so I get it.

I’m in a small town too, and our grocery only carries the giant mango bag—dangerous. What finally helped my frozen-fruit grazing was buying the little single-serve cups for work and keeping the big bag out of the house.

Pricier, but cheaper than replacing my jeans. Also, I realized I was eating it standing at the counter, so now I sit down with a bowl and a fork.

Are you eating yours at a certain time of day? Mine was always 8 p.m., which told me it was more habit than hunger.

I swear the pharmacy counter line is where I hear all the best snack tips.
