Hotel mirror lighting is making my neck look older and I don't like it

I’m on the road most weeks—two hotel nights, one conference, and whatever breakfast is sitting under a heat lamp. Down 42 lb on this med since last spring, which I’m happy about, but my neck did not get the celebratory memo.

The magnifying mirror in this hotel bathroom is basically a crime scene. At home I do sunscreen and moisturizer, and I’ve been trying to remember posture when I’m hunched over a laptop on a hotel desk.

It’s not terrible, just… crepey and tired-looking in a way that feels new. I’m not chasing a miracle, but I am curious: what’s actually in your toiletry bag for this? Neck cream? Gua sha? Silk pillowcase?

Or do I just start wearing turtlenecks in July and make it a personality?

the hotel magnifying mirror is a war crime. I’m a student, and my dorm bathroom lighting is the opposite—so bad I look like a haunted potato.

What helped me stop spiraling was taking neck pics at home, same spot, same lamp, overhead light off. Hotel mirror = 10x magnification plus top-down shadows, so it’s basically a funhouse.

Are you looking in the magnifying side or the regular one? Also, random travel survival: tuna packets and Greek yogurt are my cheap protein go-tos, because conference eggs are a gamble.

Solidarity from someone whose neck also missed the weight-loss memo.

Three years in and hotel magnifying mirrors are still the villain origin story. Congrats on 42—that’s real. What helped me not spiral was taking two phone pics in the same bathroom: one at check-in, one before checkout.

Same angle, same mirror, same lighting. My neck looked wildly different by evening, mostly from travel puffiness and hunching over a laptop, not overnight aging.

I also played with pillow height and noticed less creasing in the morning. Not medical, just my own vanity experiment.

Have you tried comparing morning vs. end-of-day in that mirror? Sometimes the “crime scene” is just 7 a.m.

overhead lighting plus conference sodium.

the 5x hotel mirror is undefeated. i stopped trusting it and now do a phone selfie at chest height in the normal mirror—same angle, same lamp, once a week.

weirdly the neck thing looked less like aging and more like dehydration + hotel AC. i also swapped my late-night soda for cold fizzy water + lime, and i actually remember to drink it while gaming.

sharp question: is it worse after salty conference food/alcohol nights? that's when mine looks like a raisin.
