Under-chin skin is writing its own calendar

I lost about 70 lbs in 2022, regained 28 over the next year and a half, and I’m ten weeks back on track. The scale is moving again, but my neck and under-chin area seem to have their own timeline. My face looks basically the same to me; my neck looks softer and crepey in photos, especially in car windows.

I started wearing sunscreen there (late to it, I know), drinking more water, and using the same moisturizer I use on my face. I also stopped tilting my phone down in selfies because wow. Not expecting miracles. Mostly I’m trying to accept that skin doesn’t do math the way fat does.

Has anyone else seen neck changes outpace face changes? What non-fancy thing actually made a difference for you?

Fellow daily weigher here. My neck was the last thing to get the memo too. What helped me stop spiraling was switching neck/chin progress to monthly, not weekly: same bathroom light, same angle, no car windows.

Car glass is basically a magnifying mirror for texture—side light plus looking down. I also track neck circumference once a month and note hydration/salt the night before pics, because a salty dinner can make me look puffier under the chin by morning.

The scale trend was ahead of my skin by a solid 6–8 weeks, then it caught up.

Are you comparing photos at the same time of day and lighting? That might be the only variable you’re seeing.

Car windows are the worst lighting, I swear. One thing I didn’t expect: my under-chin is way more crepey the morning after a salty dinner or drinks, then mostly settles in 48 hrs.

I started adding a tiny “salty?” note next to my weight in my tracker and it lines up more than the scale does. Is yours constant, or does it come and go with puffy days?

For me, keeping a water bottle in the snack drawer (so I actually drink it while refereeing kids) and sleeping slightly propped up helps the puffiness, not the loose skin. But it makes photos less shocking.

I’d separate the variables: fat volume, skin laxity, posture, lighting. Standardize the last three before drawing conclusions.

I do monthly neck circumference plus a 3-photo set—front, side, 45—phone propped at 2x, chin neutral, same hallway light, same time of day. Car windows are just a bad sensor.

Forward head posture also makes the under-chin look softer than it is. What’s your standardized comparison setup?

i’m a big fan of same-angle neck photos—first thing in the morning, same bathroom light, hair clipped back—because my mirror lies more than my phone does. The concrete thing that helped me track it: my shirt collars felt different before my under-chin changed at all, so I started noting that in my phone with my weekly weigh-in.

Are you comparing the same angle/light, or mostly catching yourself in passing? Also, I finally stuck a sunscreen stick in the drawer with my pharmacy pickup receipts so I actually remember it.
