Came back after a long pause and my old goal looks foreign

For what it's worth, i've been lurking here since the days when this sub was mostly refill anxiety and shipping threads — I posted under a different handle then, so some of you have probably already read my old rambling. I stopped everything last fall.

No drama, just life: new job, my mom moved in, and the routine quietly fell apart. Roughly 38 of the 60 pounds came back and I'm weirdly calm about it.

Now I'm starting over and my old goal number feels like something I borrowed from someone else. Last round I just chased the scale. This time the things that keep coming to mind are concrete but small: carrying both grocery bags up the porch steps in one trip, getting off the floor without using the coffee table.

For anyone who's restarted rather than started — did you pick a new target or just keep the old one and let it mean less? Trying to figure out how specific I should make this before I start counting anything again.

Oof, the old goal looking foreign thing hits. I lost ~40, regained ~30, and when I came back my spreadsheet still had a weight from a totally different life — no mom in the house, no 7pm meetings.

What helped me was deleting the old target for a month and tracking just two things: a protein-ish breakfast and a 10-minute walk before I open my laptop. Tiny

For what it's worth, my old goal row is still in the sheet, just gathering dust now. Welcome back.

the routine quietly falling apart is the part that got me. Mine went when my dad's appointments started eating my mornings — no big blowup, it just thinned out until it wasn't there.

What worked was shrinking the routine instead of rebuilding it. Two anchors only: a 20-minute walk right after lunch, shoes parked by the door, and chopping vegetables Sunday while a podcast runs.

I track protein and whether I walked. The food log was the first thing I dropped and honestly don't miss it.

Sharp question though: of everything in your old routine, which single piece would you actually want back first? For me it turned out to be the walks, not the tracking.

Yep, life ate my routine too. Old goal now reads like someone else’s chart—re-baseline and carry on.

yep the old goal becomes a stranger, i just restarted with zero soda in the house lol

For what it's worth, the “foreign goal” thing is real. I did a mini goal autopsy: crssed out the old number and wrote one sentence for this season — “keep two anchors alive on chaotic weeks.” Mine are protein at breakfast and a 10-minute walk after dinner, tracked with a dot on the calendar.

Not exciting, but it survives a weird Tuesday. If you stripped your old goal down to one non-scale behavior, what would it be?

I’m asking because my mom’s move-in wrecked my evenings too, and I’m trying to build something interruption-proof.

Totally — my old goal felt like a screenshot from another life; re-baselining helped me stop grieving the chart.
