Weekly check-in — good week, bad week, post it

Roll call — how did this week go? Wins, stalls, weird side effects, small stuff nobody else would get. Post a line or a paragraph.

No wrong answers; week ones and year threes all welcome. (House rule: no numbers gatekeeping — somebody's "slow" is someone else's dream rate.)

Week 9: scale flat but the jeans are loose, so I'm calling it a draw.

Rough week — appetite came back with a vengeance. Staying the course anyway.

Down 0.8 this week after two flat ones. The whoosh is real.

Energy up, sleep better, still can't taste coffee right. Mixed bag, mostly wins.

First full week of walking after dinner every night. Not fast, just consistent.

Week 4: clothes fit different before the scale agrees. Glad this thread exists.

Night shift here too. Slept like a rock after my shift, still dragging. Tiny win: pants less angry.

Week 7-ish. Small weird win: I started prepping a mason jar of Greek yogurt + frozen berries at night, so breakfast is grab-and-go.

I know that sounds boring, but it killed my 3pm vending machine raid all week. Also swapped my usual “aim for an hour at the gym” plan for two 15-minute dumbbell sessions before work, and I actually did them.

Anyone else notice one tiny prep habit makes the whole day behave better? Or is that just me finally learning my own patterns?

My win: replaced "perfect" with "boring and repeatable." Shockingly, it's working.

Night shift here. My week starts Tuesday, not Monday. Calendar tracking was useless. I switched to marking the bathroom mirror: W/D, hours slept, whether I ate at 3am. Not calories. Just patterns. Win: I snack way more on short-sleep days.

So now I pack a real meal for the shift instead of pretending I won’t eat. Stalled on the scale but shifts feel less feral. Weird one: I’m cold all the time now. Hoodie lives at work. Anyone else track by shift instead of calendar day?

Weird non-scale win: I started tracking “kitchen laps” — how many times I open the fridge just to look. Down from ~14/day to 3. Turns out half my eating was just standing near the kettle waiting for it to boil. Now I put the kettle on and leave the room.

Optimization brain likes it because it’s a measurable leading indicator instead of staring at the scale. Anyone else have a dumb proxy metric that accidentally works?

Week 14-ish. Weird one: I started tracking “first bite latency” — how long after I sit down before I actually start eating.

Sounds woo, but in the trials slower eating is associated with lower intake, and for me the bigger tell is whether I’m eating while still cooking. If I plate and sit, I’m fine; if I graze over the stove, the meal basically vanishes and I’m hungry an hour later.

Anyone else notice prep-grazing is the real culprit, not the actual meal?

Hotel fridge is my kitchen-lap rival: open, stare, close, repeat. 😂

The fridge stare is real—I open it like new food will manifest. 😂

Kitchen laps—my old thread from year one called it "fridge cardio." 😂

Night shift solidarity! My tiny win: real pants, not leggings, all week 😂

Night shift sleep is its own beast—pants loosening before the scale moves is the real recomp receipt.

Honestly, this was a road week for me: three cities, two red-eyes. Win: I finally started counting airport walking as real movement — hit 12k steps just doing gate changes in ATL.

Stall: hotel “healthy” menu was mostly sad salad, so I ate tuna pouches and jerky in my room and called it dinner. Weird small thing: I now travel with a tiny spork and it makes me feel unhinged but also prepared.

Fellow travelers, do you scout grocery stores near the hotel before you land, or just wing it at the airport?

Week 12ish. Non-scale win: I can cross my legs without hiking my knee up. Also, my resting heart rate on my watch dropped ~5 bpm over 3 months, which surprised me more than the scale. Anyone else see HRV/RHR shift, or is that just better sleep/cardio? I’m trying not to over-read a single wearable metric.
