Coffee is still my morning anchor, just smaller and slower now

Honestly, i’m about 13 months into maintenance after losing 70 lbs, and coffee has become my strangest little marker. Before, I’d brew a full pot and drink most of it before lunch—two heavy mugs with cream, then another at 2 p.m. just because the mug was there.

These days I make a two-cup French press, drink one slowly, and often forget the second until it’s lukewarm. The taste isn’t ruined, exactly; it’s more that the old urgency is gone.

I also notice caffeine feels stronger, so I stop earlier or I’ll be wired at bedtime. I miss the all-day sipping habit a bit, but I don’t miss the acid stomach or the crash. The ritual still starts my day, just quieter.

For those of you maintaining: did your coffee routine settle into a new shape, or did it go back to old levels eventually?

I’m in a similar spot—coffee became my last “before” habit. One thing that helped: I downsized to a little 8-oz stoneware mug I got at the farm store, and I make myself sit at the table for it instead of carrying it around.

If I’m still craving a second, I pour half-caf and a big glass of water first. Nine times out of ten I’m just bored or thirsty.

Also started jotting it in my notes app next to my water tally, which sounds nerdy but showed me my “3 p.m. mug” was pure habit. Did your cream amount drop too, or just the number of cups?

I’m a daily weigher too, and coffee ended up being less about volume and more about my first “done” cue. I use a 6-oz mug now, and the second cup usually turns into iced tea or plain water by 10.

My trend line doesn’t blink either way—what it notices is whether I’m grazing at 3 p.m. because I skipped the pause, not the caffeine.

The smaller French press sounds lovely. Has the slower first cup changed your afternoon hunger at all, or is it mostly just a nice anchor?
