Bridal weekend in three weeks and I’m only on week one

Hi everyone, I’m brand new here and just started my first week. Usually I just read, but this felt like a safe place to ask something small. My friend’s bridal weekend is in three weeks.

The last one I went to was two summers ago, and I was about 80 pounds heavier then. I’m already picturing the group photos and the “you look so different” comments, and I don’t want the whole trip to become about my body or my medication.

Right now I’m planning to keep my plate normal, sip seltzer with lime, and step out for air if I need a minute.

Is there a polite way to redirect a toast or a comment without making everyone uncomfortable? I know it’s early and I’m probably overthinking, but I’d love any low-key phrases that have worked for you. Thank you.

I’d separate the two things: photos vs. comments. Three weeks is short, and in the trials early response is really variable — some of the first drop is water/glycogen, not fat, so I wouldn’t bank on a dramatic visual change by then.

What helped me before a big event was taking front/side photos today in the same light, picking two outfits I already feel good in, and practicing a boring reply to comments: “Thanks, I’m feeling good — isn’t the bride gorgeous?” Are you more worried about seeing yourself in the pics, or about the actual comments?
