Monthly median now beats daily

I’m 27 months into this and down 118.6 lbs from my highest logged morning weight. I still weigh daily, but I only make decisions from the weekly median and the 30-day trend.

Last month my daily readings bounced between 181.0 and 186.2, while the median still slid down 1.3 lbs. Mildly contrarian take: the daily scale is mostly a random number generator with water and salt. The 30-day line is the one I actually trust, even when it’s boring.

Anyone else track medians instead of averages, or am I just overcomplicating my sheet?

I do something similar but track a 7-day average in a spreadsheet, and the game changer was tagging my scale entries: “salted supper,” “bad sleep,” “long walk,” “travel.” Nine times out of ten the spikes line up with one of those, not actual fat gain. Last month my daily number hung around 204–209 while my monthly average still dropped 1.8, so I get it.

Do you notice your bounces show up more after restaurant meals or after a hard workout? I’m trying to figure out which one throws me more, because my ankles tell me one thing and the scale tells me another.

love this. I’m back after regaining ~25, so I’m trying not to let the daily number mess with my head.

I still weigh daily but only act on a 10-day median, plus a Sunday waist measurement at the navel. Last month the scale sat flat for 18 days, then dropped 2.1 lbs after a salty weekend finally flushed.

The tape had already moved 0.5” down, which kept me sane. Do you reset your baseline after travel/vacations, or just let the median absorb the spike?
