I take one photo a month but I don't let myself look at any of them until month three

I take exactly one picture on the first of each month. Same bathroom, same overhead light, same unimpressed expression. Then I leave the folder alone for a while and don't open it until there are at least three shots in there.

Early on I'd pull up two photos side by side and spiral because one looked heavier than the other. Took me a bit to realize a photo is just a single weigh-in. One reading is weather, the trend is climate — same rule I use for the scale.

Speaking of which, I weigh daily. 0.2 up, 1.4 down, doesn't matter to me anymore. The 7-day average has been drifting down roughly 0.4 kg a week for the last four months. The photo folder is way lumpier than that. Month three looked identical to month one, then month five looked like a stranger.

If you're documenting this, keep the lighting boring and don't judge a single shot. Anyone else notice their camera roll lags behind their trend line?

I love the “same unimpressed expression” detail. I do a cousin of this: same time of day, same outfit, but I scribble one line on a sticky note in the folder—sleep, stress, salty dinner, workouts.

It helps me not panic when a month looks puffier. I also add a tiny non-scale win each month, like rings fitting better or taking the stairs without breathing hard.

When you finally open it at month three, do you flip through them one by one or lay all three out at once? And do you pair the photos with measurements, or keep it visual only?

I do something similar, but I tuck a one-line note in the same folder: “walked the creek loop twice,” “made that lemony lentil soup,” “slept like a rock.” When I finally open it at month three, I read the notes before the pictures. It keeps me from judging one shot in isolation and reminds me the habits are the real progress.

Concrete thing: same bathroom, same light, but I wear the same old zip hoodie every time—it’s less about the outfit and more abut how it hangs. Sharp question: do you ever add a note, or is your folder strictly photos?

Curious if a word or two would help or just give you more to overthink.
